Our Mission

To create a more equitable technology ecosystem that addresses longstanding racial inequality, creates economic opportunity, tackles critical societal issues, and reflects the power and perspectives of Black, Latine, and Native communities.

Our Vision

We believe that when technology creation, design, and investment includes diverse perspectives, we can collectively transform the technology ecosystem, harness tech to address societal challenges, and improve conditions for Black, Latine, and Native communities and society as a whole.

Our Areas of Focus

What We Do

The Foundation’s work aims to both impact the national technology landscape and build inclusive tech ecosystems in key regions. We conduct research, make strategic grants, invest in entrepreneurs and funds, and inform equitable technology policy across four focus areas necessary to enhance racial justice and equity in tech:

Equity in CS Education

To ensure Black, Latine, and Native students have equitable access to computer science (CS) education, we build leadership capacity to design K-12 CS pathways in schools and districts, support educators in implementing culturally responsive CS pedagogy and instruction, track and report on access and participation in the CS education ecosystem through research, and advocate for education policy changes to improve equitable outcomes CS education.

Inclusive Pathways to Tech Jobs

To address disparities in postsecondary computing education and create alternative inclusive pathways to tech jobs, we produce resources and toolkits, invest in organizations and initiatives expanding access to tech jobs, and advocate for new models of upskilling, reskilling, and hiring.

DEIB in the Tech Workforce

To advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) in tech companies, we analyze data trends, provide resources and training for DEIB professionals, and advocate for policies to increase hiring, retention, data collection, and regulation/accountability of tech companies.

Diversifying Entrepreneurship & VC

To address the lack of capital deployed to entrepreneurs and fund managers from underrepresented groups, we invest in tech startups and funds, conduct research on the entrepreneurship landscape, support ecosystem-building and work toward policy change – all with a racial equity lens.

Equitable Tech Policy

To ensure systemic change across the tech sector, we work to advance nine core equitable technology policy areas that call for expanded access to technology pathways, increased tech accountability and worker protections, and greater investment in infrastructure and innovation. We advance equitable tech policy by building awareness about the issues and building capacity of organizations to address them.
